Maquettes before galvanizing
There were two sets of maquettes fabricated at this size. The second set were scanned in three dimensions and this dimensional information was used to inform the structural design of the 30 metre sculptures.

Galvanizing
The maquettes were galvanized, as with most of Andy Scott’s steel sculptures.

Galvanizing
Both maquettes were galvanized at Highland Colour Coaters in Cumbernauld. The process involved dipping the sculptures in baths of molten zinc.

Sculpting in the studio
Here Andy Scott is working on the maquettes in the studio. The external surfaces are made from hundreds of small pieces of steel, welded around a steel armature.
